You're writing a story about a new 'something' and want to compare it with another item that your audience is more familiar with. This is where Cool Conversions comes in.

Just select the unit of measurement you are writing about in the drop-down list on the left and then choose the stat that best compares with your original measurement.

All conversions are listed in size order, the smallest first, and have both imperial and metric units.

So if you've ever needed to say that 'something'

- is as far as to the Moon and back (477, 680 miles)

- is half the height of the Empire State Building (736 feet)

- is the weight of a dozen bags of sugar (12 kilos)

- covers the same area as the Taj Mahal (97, 970 ft2)

- could fill a supertanker (678,000m3)

- is twice as loud as a pneumatic drill (170dB)

- is nearly as fast as a cheetah (70 mph)

- is one each for everyone on a 747 (1000)

then this is the page you need, for those and dozens more facts to make your news stories relatable, understandable and memorable.
