As well as the books and articles listed on this site, here's some more background information on

Peter Stewart.

Peter Stewart is an award-winning broadcaster, radio consultant and author with twenty years’ experience in media, and works in the BBC’s regional tri-media news centre in Kent.

His book ‘Essential Radio Skills’ (2006) has been widely praised by BBC and commercial radio presenters and managers as being the book on how to present and produce a radio show. It's recommended to students on similar courses including those at Bournemouth, Glamorgan and even on the prestigious Australian Film, Television and Radio School.

In 2009, another two books updated by Peter took their place on the bookshelves: the rewritten ‘Essential Radio Journalism’ (formerly ‘Basic Radio Journalism’) will be a companion volume to ERS; and the standard Andrew Boyd text ‘Broadcast Journalism’ for which Peter has contributed the radio chapters. He’s also written a weekly column in industry publication ‘The Radio Magazine’ since 2001, and through the US radio consultant Dan O’Day sells his e-books ‘Find-A-Line’ and (in 2008) ‘1001 Top Talking Topics’.

He has produced a monthly training newsletter for broadcast journalists since July 2004. ‘Useful Stuff’ is read by 7,000 media professionals around the world.

Peter Stewart has been involved in broadcasting in almost all formats both in speech and music radio, and TV. He started on hospital radio and RSLs, then student radio before getting his first professional role presenting news and magazine programmes. He’s hosted music shows, celebrity interview programmes and chart countdowns, and handled phone-ins, competitions and election coverage.

Peter’s been heard on national and local radio, for commercial stations, the BBC and BFBS - and in almost every time slot.

In radio management he’s been group head of news and head of presentation, and in TV has hosted programmes, written scripts and recorded voice-overs.

He was the winner of the award for Best Personality Newsreader at the New York International Radio Awards in 1997 – the category of which he’s been UK Chairman of Judges (2000-06). He’s also judged the Commercial Radio Companies Association Awards, the Student Radio Awards (2006) and the prestigious Sony Radio Awards (2007, 8)

As well as training hundreds of presenters, producers and managers for the BBC’s national and local radio and television stations, Peter’s also coached commercial radio staff in Britain and around the world through BBC Training & Development (where he was a staff trainer for three years); The RadioCentre (formerly The Commercial Radio Companies Association); The Wireless Group; and Skillset (the national training organisation for broadcast, film, video and multimedia).
